Leader: Doris Lister
All women are invited to be part of this creative, supportive fellowship enjoying religious and secular activities. The benefits of working together are many, including lasting friendships and the satisfaction of doing the Lord's work.
And Jesus saith unto them, "How many
loaves have ye? " And they said,
"Seven, and a few little fishes."
MATT 15.34
We too are trying to "feed the multitudes" by being a small part of the missions of the United Methodist Church. Most of our 2006 budget was raised through fund-raising activities during the year:
February cake sale; a pre mother's day plant sale; a summer B-B-Q; Harvest Fair; and a Christmas dinner.
Through the efforts of many dedicated women, we were able to give generously to the missions of the L.I. East District UMW; First Church Baldwin; Project Linus; United Methodist Home in Shelton, CT.; and the Hempstead Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
In addition to monetary donations, a number of women prepare monthly meals, serving over 100 people, for the Far Rockaway Mission and the Roosevelt Soup Kitchen. We also have volunteers who serve at the Roosevelt Soup Kitchen. During the year, health articles are collected and are donated to the Hempstead Coalition Against Domestic Violence for distribution throughout Nassau County.
Our monthly meetings are held on the last Sunday of each month in the Church Parlor at 11:15 am, following our church worship service. Our current officers are Doris Lister, President; Gerry Kinch, Vice President; Norma Collins, Treasurer; and Janet Heaney, Secretary.
Plans are underway for events and activities during 2007. We welcome all who would like to join us in fellowship.
With the Lord's help, and your help, we can accomplish much!
